…well, somewhere it hurts.
That might be what I need to get my writing going. I came across this blog, copyblogger, and found something that I immediately printed and neatly sellotaped next to my desk so I never forget:
The site is filled with posts on creativity in general, copywriting and other stuff. Maybe it’s just common knowledge, old news, but it still feels good sometimes to listen to what others have to say on the subject. I keep forgetting that writing is plain old hard work. It rarely involves any bolts of lightning (or inspiration), no divine intervention…just trying, deleting, trying some more and never ever giving up.
That’s why I enjoy other people’s writing on the subject of writing. It takes the pink fluffy air of magic away from it and sort of tells me “Wake up, sweetheart” (which Nigel tells Andy in that particualar scene in The Devil Wears Prada when she’s complaining abour her job). I need to do just that. Wake up. Smell the coffee. Get to work.
(oh yeah, I’m already at work… but you know what I mean. the other work. the novel that needs to be written)
